WATER is a Biophysical Intelligence research company. Our mission is to teach matter to respond to life: we study how the human body and the physical world respond to each other, and we build machines that sense a body, model its state, and respond in real time. CAMA, an adaptive bed, and FLOW, an adaptive chair, are the first surfaces this research runs on. The work spans three research directions: machine learning and mathematics, bio research, and materials and electronics. The long-range outcomes we care about are human longevity and human experience.

You own the scientific validation of what our surfaces can infer about a body. You'll work on PSG-referenced studies, clinical protocols and collaborations, the claims we can defensibly make, and the physiological targets engineering builds against.

In This Role You Will

  • -Design and run sleep and physiology studies, including PSG-referenced validation of our staging and physiological inference.
  • -Own the clinical protocol: instrumentation, scoring, inter-rater reliability, statistical power, ethics approval.
  • -Manage external clinical collaborations and sleep-lab partnerships.
  • -Define what claims we can and cannot make, and hold that line in product and marketing conversations.
  • -Translate physiological findings into targets the engineering teams can build against.
  • -Track the regulatory boundary between wellness and clinical framing, and flag when we approach it.
  • -Publish, and build the scientific credibility of the platform.

What We Hope You'll Bring

  • -You have scored or validated sleep data against polysomnography, and can say precisely where agreement breaks down.
  • -PhD, MD or Master's in sleep science, physiology, neuroscience or a related field.
  • -Direct experience with PSG, actigraphy, HRV or respiratory signal analysis.
  • -Strong statistics; you write your own analysis.
  • -Willingness to tell people a result is not there yet when they want it to be.
  • -Nice to have: sleep medicine clinical background, consumer device validation studies, regulatory claim experience.
